Rocky
I was at Home Depot recently getting provisions for the lengthy “honey do” list that my wife had prepared for me. That’s when I met Rocky, a young man who offered to help me gather and load my supplies. His positive attitude was contagious and his willingness to help was refreshing and rare. As I talked with Rocky, I found out just how extraordinary he was.
Rocky was raised in a foster care home. He worked his way through school and currently is care-giving for his foster mom who is struggling with health issues. He has worked his way into becoming a supervisor at Home Depot and desires to continue his education. Rocky has not experienced an easy life but his attitude and perseverance is incredibly inspirational. He shared with me that while his journey has been hard, he believes that, “How I walk this journey is important”. He refuses to become a victim. He chooses to be different.
Rocky is leading by example. He is working hard and making the most of the opportunities that intersect his life. That is what we all should aspire to do with our lives. Rocky is a leader and there is no doubt that he is making a difference.
