How Are You Using 2020?
It is here, 2021 is upon us. I hope that you have been able to rest and renew during this holiday season. There are many who are experiencing loss and sickness due the pandemic and other issues. For them we offer our sincere prayers of healing and hope.
With the coming of a new year it is important that we don’t allow the difficulty of the past year to rob us of truth. The truth is that difficult times can cause us to crumble as victims or we can allow them to strengthen our leadership muscles. When we look back at this year with awareness and a resolve to learn, we can gain insights that will help us and those we influence.
As I have walked with leaders through this year, I realized that the choice to lead with self-awareness is what separated the strong leaders from those who became victims of their circumstances. Leaders who are self-aware know their own strengths, and recognize when they need to ask for help. This past year these strong men and women were able to gain the trust of others with their authenticity and honesty.
Perhaps one of the greatest lessons we can learn from this past year is that people don’t expect us to have all of the answers or to lead with perfection. What they need is authenticity that drives us to be honest, transparent and willing to listen and learn.
2020 is drawing to a close, but you don’t need to leave what you’ve experienced and learned this year in the past. When we choose to use 2020 as a conduit to growth, we will make a difference in 2021!
