Change the Focus

It wasn’t the hustle and bustle that usually attacks us this time of year. It wasn’t that I was so busy that I forgot the why of the season. In fact, I found myself yearning for the day to arrive. You see, I knew that once Christmas came we were only one week away from getting out of this ridiculous year that has brought such difficulty and pain for so many.

That’s when I realized that I have been looking forward to Christmas for the wrong reasons. This season is about celebrating the blessings, the friends and family who are so important to us. Most importantly, it is about celebrating the birth of, in my opinion, the greatest leader who has ever lived. No year or series of tragic events can take away the hope that He offers to us.

So, in this time of uncertainty and fear, I will choose to focus on the one thing that is more powerful than a virus, offers love that can overcome the hate that prejudice brings, and brings calm to the current political chaos. I will focus on the hope of Jesus.

Stop. Take a breath. Celebrate this season in the manner you choose. But don’t go through this time saturated in fear and anxiety.  As a Jesus follower, I invite you to experience His hope, confidence and peace.

Have a wonderful Christmas or holiday time with those you love (even if it’s virtually this year). Choose to focus on the real meaning of this season and you will make a difference.
