Have A Clue
He actually sent me a picture. This leader understood the concepts of servant leadership. Unfortunately, his boss did not. In the picture was a car parked in a space that read Visitors. While the rest of the company parked in the designated employee parking spaces the CEO of the company chose the spot closest to the building. This may seem like a small thing but it is not. What do you think the team members think every morning when they walk past his car to enter the building?
The executive taking the visitor parking spot for himself is a symbol of his hierarchical leadership style. His egotistical approach to leading sends a message that he is more important than his team. This causes the team to feel under-appreciated and devalued. The leader who took the picture understood first hand the damage this type of leadership does to a team. He said when it comes to humility and servant leadership my boss “doesn’t have a clue”.
Take a minute to reflect on your behavior to others. What messages are you sending with your actions, words and tone of voice. Are you leading those around you with respect and appreciation? What message are you sending to those you love? Do you have a clue how your actions and reactions are affecting others?
Demonstrating a confident but kind spirit is a choice. It also requires great strength and discipline. Choose to “have a clue” about your attitude and actions and you will make a difference.
