Getting Back

They were short handed. This hotel owns a name that you would instantly recognize. I was there on a business trip and found myself observing the hard working team that was struggling to keep up with the surge of guests eager to get back to a normal lifestyle. It was obvious that each team member was being asked to carry a heavy load. I observed that, through it all, they continued to smile, respond politely, and spread kindness throughout the establishment. It appeared that each one understood the significance of their return to work. One could say, “Well that’s their job,” but these employees were going beyond just doing their job.

In today’s culture of fear and selfishness, it is good to see that there are those who desire to work and realize the importance of connecting and serving others well. This team reminded me that how we work is critically important. Bringing an attitude of authentic care and respect for others is the foundation for leading and living well.

Take the time to thank those who are choosing to enter or reenter the work force. Look for opportunities to share a kind word with those who are willing to work so that we might get past this pandemic mess and move our lives forward.

Choose to show appreciation to those around you and you will make a difference.
