COVID-19 Heroes: Dr. Nick
Nick is a hero. He is a doctor who continues to open his practice to those who need him. He is awake in the wee hours of the morning preparing for what the day ahead will bring. Right now, he is not only active in giving COVID-19 tests, but he is also swamped with caring for patients with the seasonal flu and a host of other viruses that are prevalent this time of year. In the midst of a global pandemic, he is also continuing to see and care for his geriatric patients, who are especially vulnerable right now. While taking care of all of these people he follows the recommended protocol and precautions, however, he refuses to allow fear to drive him to abandon his patients. These days, he can be found after-hours dressed in a protective mask and gloves, making house-visits to his patients with low immune systems that can’t risk coming into his office.
Many of our health care providers do what they do because they feel called to take care of others- and it is that calling that will keep them in their offices, clinics, hospitals, in the homes of the ill, and on the frontlines of battling the coronavirus. These heroes include doctors, nurses, assistants, and others in the medical profession who give of themselves and risk their own health for the sake of their fellow men and women.
Nick is responding to this crises with care and courage. He is an example of what is strong and good in our country, and why we will get through this pandemic of COVID -19. When we choose to respond to fear with the courage to use our gifts to help those around us, we will make a difference.
