A True Pearl
He was more than sad. He was disappointed to the point of frustration. This young leader knew that coming into this job would be tough and he was experiencing that difficult journey now. As we talked, I realized that this was more than a coaching job for him. He had been raised to truly care about the players and their families. His Dad taught him the value of servant leadership. I have said many times that how we respond in tough times is a sure indictor of our character and integrity. How he handled those hard times demonstrated just such qualities.
Meet Steven Pearl, the men’s Assistant Basketball coach for Auburn University and son of head coach Bruce Pearl. I have walked with Steven for several years. I have observed how he has charted rough waters and how he has experienced incredible success. Steven remains the same through good times and bad. He understands servant leadership and has a heart for each player on the team. Don’t allow his authentic leadership style to cause you to underestimate his competitive spirit and his drive for success. The recent results of Auburn’s basketball program speak for themselves.
Steven is a unique leader who leads with his head and his heart. Take a few minutes to listen to this fascinating interview as he tells us what it was like growing up with Bruce Pearl. Listen as he shares what he learned and how he is continuing to use those lessons in his own leadership journey.
