Words Are Cheap

We have all heard the adage, “words are cheap”. This is a mantra of those who are task-driven and naturally operate Below the Line (I explained the Above and Below the Line concept in my earlier LLM) . I call these personalities the Leading Lion or the Competent Camel. Both are task driven but there are differences in their respective personalities.

The Leading Lion is a big-picture, big-task person. They love to ‘conquer the hill’. The Lion wants you to give them a challenge and then get out of their way. They fly at 30,000 feet and have the ability to cast a large vision with confidence and courage. Generally, Lions are going to talk before they consider how their words make others feel. If you want to connect with the Lion in your life, you need to develop the ability to speak Lion Language. Use direct, straightforward words and stay out of the details. They need to be empowered and know that you have confidence in them to accomplish the task at hand.

The Competent Camel is focused how the task is completed. They care deeply about the details and organization of the task. They are logical processors who generally live in a black-and-white world with few grey areas. Following the rules and developing a process are critical to Camels. Speaking of critical, the logical-thinking Camel can come across as critical and negative to others. If you want to connect with the Camel in your life, you need to develop a logical mindset and strive not to take their criticism personally. They need to know that you believe in their competence and that you appreciate their ability to provide quality in the task at hand.

Go back and take a look at the Above the Line personalities from last week. Are you more comfortable operating above or below the line?

It is important for us to learn how to connect above and below the line. This means learning how to constantly cross the line in order to effectively communicate and lead those in our lives. I sincerely believe doing this will strengthen and grow the important relationships in your life.

When you choose to cross the line it will make a difference!
