When Stress Affects Your Life

A lot of things were going on in my life and my stress level was high. Instead of taking the opportunity to step back, I found myself reacting to all that was happening. Before I knew it, I had allowed the stress to affect others around me as well.

There are times when we find ourselves in stressful situations dealing with difficult things. It’s during these moments that we become less attuned to those we care about. When we are stressed, we are more likely to be short tempered, impatient or neglect the people we care about the most.  When we are in stressful situations, our decision making skills tend to decrease as well.

While we can’t always control our environment, we can control how we respond to those times. Try the following actions when you are in the middle of a stressful situation:

  • Be aware. Realize that your body and mind are under stress.

  • Hit pause. Slow down and try to not be in a reactive mode.

  • Be open. Let those you trust help you through the situation.

We all face hard things from time to time. When we shift from reacting to being intentional, it will make a difference.
