Ukraine - Respect Matters

Over the last several days, social media has allowed us to watch in near real-time the invasion of Russia into Ukraine. I can’t begin to understand what causes a dictator to attack and kill his own neighbors, but because of technology, people around the world can clearly see that Putin’s lack of respect for Ukraine as a nation and for it’s people has led to violence and death.

We’ve watched the horrors of a war unfolding, and at the same time we’ve been inspired by the spirit of the Ukrainian people. We've witnessed the heroic acts that occur when people come together and fight to protect their country, their livelihoods, their families, and their homes.

I encourage all of us to stop and pray for the people of Ukraine. I am sure that in the days to come there will be tangible ways that we can give to and support the people of this strained and war-torn country. In the meantime, I will continue to watch the developments and the struggle of the Ukrainian people with utmost respect. I will be reminded that respect for the human dignity and rights of others is the foundation for peace and stability. I will carry that reminder into my own daily life, and be intentional about how I interact with those around me. I will muzzle my judgement and unleash my compassion. I will look for ways to stand together instead of standing apart.

Respect for each other is the cornerstone of being human. When that is taken away, evil lifts its ugly head and lives are destroyed. Everyone deserves to live peacefully and with respect from those around them. When we choose to authentically offer that respect, we will make a difference.
