Reset
I could tell my friend was struggling. He’s a strong man—one who can weather the storms of leading a company or navigating the challenges of family life. But this time, something felt different. This wasn’t just the usual stress that comes with responsibility; there was a heaviness in his voice, a weariness in his posture. He seemed down, maybe even a bit hopeless.
When I asked what was going on, his response caught me off guard.
He said, “I feel like I’m constantly under stress, with people making demands on me in every area of my life. It never stops. I’m exhausted, and the weight of it all is wearing me down—mentally, emotionally, and physically. Worst of all, it’s damaging my relationships with the people I love.”
We often underestimate the destruction and damage caused by stress —not just on our own well-being, but on our relationships. It’s easy to get so caught up in life’s demands that we neglect to take care of ourselves. But the truth is, we can’t adequately care for others if we don’t care for ourselves. We can’t pour into others if our own cup is empty.
My burned-out friend recognized this. He took a step back, set aside time to recharge, and began renewing his body, mind, and soul. My hope is that he makes this a regular part of his life going forward.
What about you? Do you need to step back and allow yourself to rest and renew? Is it time to make some time for you? When we choose to reset our mind, body, and soul, we will make a difference.
