Moments Matter

It’s my favorite time of the year. The heat of summer is slowly fading, and the cooler temps of fall are beginning to show up. Not to mention, college football season is in full swing.

But here’s the problem: I’m a “future guy.” I think a lot about what’s coming ahead, and usually I’m planning and looking at the next year before we even get to the autumn season of this year. And as much as I love this season, I can sometimes miss enjoying it altogether.

The same thing can happen in our relationships. When we’re stuck in the “what ifs,” “what could have been,” or even the “what has been,” we miss the meaningful moments right in front of us with the people who matter most.

To build purposeful relationships, we have to focus on the moments in time that matter. They might be as small as a morning cup of coffee, or as big as celebrating a milestone. These moments may not always seem like a big deal… but they are. They’re what meaningful relationships are made of.

Only one person can make you slow down, pay attention, and invest in others. That person is you. It’s your choice.

I’ve decided to operate a bit more in the present, so that I can enjoy this beautiful season and the people I love. Because when we choose to be present and intentionally invest in our relationships, we will make a difference.
