Let’s Find a Way
They were in the middle of making a life-changing decision. This married couple wanted to explore all the options and details of this major decision. They are both bright, educated professionals who identified two sources of information that could aid them in making this decision. The first source was an individual who met them with negativity and doubt. This person displayed poor people skills and seemed to relish presenting obstacles to accomplishing this very selfless path of giving that the couple was considering. The other source was an individual who welcomed their curious questions with enthusiasm and encouragement. She sensed their need for information and gladly provided accurate data. She did not cover up the difficulty of the decision but instead offered kindness and assurance that it could be accomplished. “Let’s find a way to make this happen” was her attitude.
So many times, we tend to allow negative influencers to sway our decision-making. There are many people in this world who will tell us why we cannot achieve our dreams or goals. Criticism in today’s social media mayhem comes fast, furious, and often. It seems people take joy in criticizing and derailing others. What would social media look like if all the negative and hurtful comments were gone? What would our relationships look like if we focused on encouragement and support instead of pointing out shortcomings and faults?
My friends were drawn to the individual who offered hope. Leaders who are encouraging draw others to them. Ask yourself the question: “Am I spewing negativity, or am I offering authentic care and support?” Choose to look for ways to be a leader of hope, and you will make a difference!
