Lean Into It

One definition of pursue is “to go after” or “lean into” something, even if it’s hard. Anything that is truly valuable is worth pursuing. It is amazing to me how easily we seem to forget this principle when it comes to the people in our lives.

It is easy to fall into the myth that if we just ignore our relationships, things will be fine. There is nothing further from the truth. If we don’t pursue strong relationships, they will flounder and eventually die. Taking a passive approach to our relationships will result in toxicity and frustration.

When we determine that our relationships are worth pursuing, our actions will change. Here are 3 ways to actively “lean into” having healthy relationships:

  1. Learn to listen to the other person without interrupting or correcting.

  2. Honor the differences in each of you instead of condemning.

  3. Find ways to communicate to the other person that aligns with their personality.

Practice these first steps of building a connection with others. When you choose to actively pursue the important relationships in your life, you will make a difference.
