Investments That Last
My recent trip to Greece and the Greek Isles with a group of friends left me with more than great memories, incredible food, and an iPhone full of pictures. As impressive as the ancient ruins, temples, and historical sites were, what stayed with me most had very little to do with architecture. It had everything to do with relationships.
As I walked through places that have stood for thousands of years, I was reminded that history is not simply the story of events. History is the story of people. Behind every great city, influential leader, cultural achievement, and even every conflict were relationships. Alliances were formed, friendships were built, mentors invested in others, and communities came together around a shared purpose. The rise and fall of civilizations was often influenced as much by human connection as by military strength or political power.
One of the most meaningful parts of the trip was visiting places I had read about for years. Standing on Mars Hill, walking through Ancient Corinth, and seeing sites connected to the Apostle Paul brought history to life in a powerful way. These were no longer just names on a page or stories from long ago. They were real people who walked those same roads, faced real challenges, built meaningful relationships, and left a legacy that continues to impact lives today.
The trip reminded me that while buildings, monuments, and ruins can survive for centuries, relationships leave the deepest mark. Long after the stones crumble, the influence of a life invested in others remains. The people we encourage, the friendships we build, the trust we earn, and the love we give often become our greatest legacy.
When we shift from focusing on what we build to investing in who we build with, it will make a difference.
