Carrying The Torch
There are some things you can never understand but for which you are forever thankful. Our military service men and women are among those things. I will never understand the sacrifice these brave women and men made to serve our country. I will never fully understand the anguish and stress that family members have felt with their loved ones overseas serving our country. I will never know the commitment, determination, and strength that the men and women of our military possess in order to protect our freedom. I do know that I deeply respect each one and that I am grateful for their service.
Our veterans and our active military represent the very best of America. I am proud to say that young men and women continue to feel the desire and call to become a part of the force that defends and protects our country. Recently, Tatum, a college freshman and member of the honor guard of the Air Force ROTC at a major university, proudly carried the flag representing her branch of the military into the opening ceremonies of their college football game. To those of us who know her and her family, it was a meaningful moment. On a larger scale, her participation represented the young people of America who realized the importance of serving in one of our military branches. She is a reminder to us all that we are doing some things right in our nation. It is comforting to know there are those who are willing to carry the torch of protecting and defending this land that we love.
Veterans Day is a time to recognize and thank those who wear the uniform of the US military as well as their families. Take the opportunity this week to offer a kind word of thanks to those who serve our country.
Thank you, Tatum, for your choice to serve our country, you are making a difference.
