In-Laws & Outlaws: All About EQ

There is a saying that describes what happens when we make assumptions (if you know, you know).  I have found the saying to be true, especially when it comes to relationships. Making assumptions generally leads to miscommunication and misunderstanding. When we assume that we know what the other person is thinking or that we know what they meant to say or that we know why they said what they did…we are generally wrong.

Making assumptions is easy to do and takes less effort than asking clarifying questions or having conversation on a deeper level in order to develop a better understanding of the issue at hand. Taking the short cut assumption path leads to hurt and frustration and can damage our relationships with those we care about the most. Instead of making assumptions, applying EQ (Emotional Intelligence) in our relationships is the key to success. The good news is that anyone can grow their EQ skills.

Take a minute to check out our latest Relationshifts podcast where we discuss the importance of EQ in our relationships.

When we shift from making assumptions to asking questions we will make a difference.
