Conflict: Clash of the Personalities

It is going to happen. It is inevitable. You are going to disagree with someone you care about.

“Really?!? You want me to turn around and go all the way back home (less than a block) so you can get your sunglasses?” My wife and I were trying to get to the airport, and I was frustrated. As I turned around, I began to realize that I had allowed my frustration to turn my words toward my camel wife into an unneeded emotional response. This meant that I needed to have a conversation with my very literal-minded wife that I was frustrated and that I should have controlled my words. I did, and it deescalated what could have blown up into a non-needed argument.

Learning how the people in your life deal with conflict can help you to turn disagreements into healthy conflict. It is a skill that you can develop, and then it becomes a choice for you instead of an emotional reaction.

Check out the latest episode of our Relationshifts podcast, where we discuss how each personality type deals with conflict and how you can successfully disagree without being disagreeable.

When we choose to have healthy conflict, we will make a difference.
