Your Footprints

Throughout the years, scores of people will enter and then leave our lives. Some stay longer than others. Some we choose to have in our lives, and others we do not.

There are times when I wonder how I ever allowed a particular person to have such a powerful and negative influence on me. Other times, I am incredibly grateful for the positive impact a person has left on my life. Many times, it’s a mixture of both. There are good memories, and there are difficult ones.

I think that the most important thing is to discern who truly cares about us and who is driven by his or her own agenda. It is the rare person who gives of themselves to make someone else stronger, better, and more fulfilled. It is incredibly rare when someone is worthy of holding your heart.

Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.

I will take that a step further and say that true friends leave a positive, meaningful footprint, while those who hurt us deeply can leave a negative and long-lasting hurt in our hearts.

As we travel this journey of life, it is wise to learn from all who come into and go out of our lives. Give thanks for those few who truly invest and care about you. Learn to guard against those who don’t.

Choose to leave positive footprints on the hearts of others and you will truly make a difference.
