When Relationships Winter ❄️

Every relationship, whether it’s a marriage, a friendship, or a team, moves through different seasons. Some feel like spring, full of connection and growth. Others slowly drift into winter.

The question we all have to ask is: Do we want to bring this relationship back to life?

If the answer is no, the relationship will likely fade. But if the answer is yes, then it’s time to figure out how to warm things back up. Winter doesn’t have to mean the end… it simply signals that the relationship needs intentional care.

The first step is recognizing when and how the frost began to settle in, and what we can do about it. That starts with a mindset shift from “Something is wrong with us” to “We’re in a slower season that needs attention.” This perspective helps us move from blaming to tending.

Next, trade the one big apology later for frequent, authentic repairs now. Move from “I’ll deal with it later” to “I hear you.” Consistent moments of kindness and humility go a long way in rebuilding trust.

And finally (maybe most importantly) stop waiting until you “feel ready.” Take action. A simple walk, a coffee break, or putting time to talk on the calendar can signal intentional change and rekindle connection.

Take a few minutes to listen to our RelationShifts podcast episode, When Relationships Winter. We share practical ways to help thaw the frost and re-engage meaningfully with the people who matter most.
