Truths for Success
I was talking with my friend Darrel recently who has owned his own business for years. I asked him what he thought had contributed to his successful entrepreneurial journey. He told me that years ago one of his mentors had shared a valuable truth with him. The mentor said, “If you are going to be successful you must be skilled in three things. The first skill is to be able to adapt. The second is to learn to improvise well. The third one is to overcome.”
Life is hard and it is definitely not fair. More important than the trials we face is how we walk through those hard times. Learning to be adaptable is essential to successfully navigating the paths of life. Those who are rigid and refuse to change will not be successful. Having the ability to use what resources you have to get where you need to be is vital for every leader. If you become a victim of the “I can’t” belief system then you never will. Those who consistently overcome the obstacles in their lives are the ones who know how to skillfully perform the first two traits.
My friend Darrel is a wise man who understands what it takes to be successful. The good news is that we can do the same. Learning to apply these skills will be uncomfortable and at times difficult. The rewards will be worth it.
Choose to adapt, improvise and overcome and you will make a difference.
