Trust vs Skepticism
There is a ton of skepticism in our world today. The incredible lack of trust saturates into communities, businesses, relationships and families. We live in a time where people seem to be increasingly polarized and less tolerant of those who hold a different view or opinion. I have noticed that the strongest and most influential leaders are not those who manipulate opinions to galvanize differences but instead work to bring people together with an appreciation or even an understanding of those differences.
Refusing to cast judgement on those who hold views or opinions that conflict with ours is the responsibility of all strong leaders. This takes courage and developing an indifference for seeking the approval others. It means living a life that is not driven by getting “likes “ or “hearts” on the ever judgmental social media platforms. It means being confident enough in yourself to listen without criticizing. It’s having the strength to be passionate about your cause without emoting negative attacks on those who are on the opposing side of an issue.
The easy thing to do is to ignore your responsibility to show respect to others and instead spread the toxic poison of intolerance. It’s easy to launch agenda-driven attacks. It’s easy to only connect with those who hold views similar to yours.
But that is not leading.
Leading is when we choose to make the hard decision to care about all people. This means demonstrating respect when disagreements arise. The strongest leaders are those who understand the importance of humility. Show me a leader who exhibits respect and humility and I’ll show you a leader who truly builds trust and influences others.
Choose to be a leader who builds trust instead of skepticism and you will make a difference.
