The Neighbor Poll

There’s a poll called the “neighbor poll” that doesn’t ask who you’re voting for, but who you think your neighbors are voting for. It’s an interesting twist on perception versus reality.

Now imagine a different kind of poll… in this poll, your neighbors, friends, and family are asked not about your politics, but about you. How would they describe you? What would they say is most important to you? What would they say defines you?

Would they say you tend to criticize others? Focus on the negative? Talk mostly about what you’re against? Do they feel like conversations with you are mostly about you?

Or would they describe you as someone who encourages others? Someone who looks for the good, who knows what they stand for, and who takes a genuine interest in the people around them?

Our everyday actions and attitudes tell a story about each of us. We are defined by how we respond, how we engage, and how we treat the people in our lives. If we focus on negativity and self-interest, others will see that. But if we work to lead with encouragement and positivity, that’s what will stand out.

How will the “neighbor poll” define you?

Choose to focus on having a positive impact on those around you, and you will make a difference.
