Live While You Can

I write these email blogs about what I am currently seeing or experiencing in my life and leadership journey. Ten years ago, I wrote of a man named Bobby who had a complicated cancer diagnosis and how he was choosing to, in his words “live life while you can”. His positive outlook along with his realistic determination to fight this disease, is an inspiration for all who knew him.

Bobby passed to eternity in heaven earlier this morning. What strikes me is that all through his painful and rigorous fight with cancer, he never lost his identity. He never had a “victim” or defeated outlook on life. Instead, he seized each moment, and created purpose in the time he had left to live on this earth.

While we cannot choose when or if we will face a fatal disease or difficult situation in our life, we can choose how we will walk through those circumstances. Our outlook and attitude belong to us. We own our responses, our actions and our interactions with others. One thing for certain is that we all are terminal. At some point, life on earth will end for all of us. I want to choose to live with intention and purpose, and to live life to its fullest, while I can.

As Bobby put it, “Make the most of life! Don’t be afraid to laugh and never stop fighting.” Thank you, Bobby, for making a difference.
