Heritage Moments
Heritage is important. This is the week we celebrate our heritage in the United States. Recently, I was talking with Bobby who had just come back from an extended visit to Europe. He and his family found the birthplace of his ancestors. They explored and investigated where his family had lived, how they had immigrated to the states, and through the years had served and fought for their faith and country. It was a cool story and a great reminder of the debt we owe to those who made incredible sacrifices for each of us.
When I asked Bobby about his favorite part of the trip, he gave me an interesting answer. He said, “It was the hiking adventure up a famous trail that we went on with our adult children. We worked together and accomplished a common goal of making it to the top of the trail. We made a memory that will last a lifetime.”
Bobby’s response is a reminder that while our past heritage is important, the heritage moments that we are living are even more important. Being intentional about creating meaningful memories with those we love will result in creating a strong heritage for the future.
This Fourth of July, let’s remember and honor our past. Let’s also take the time to celebrate our present. Don’t miss out on opportunities to demonstrate your patriotism and to make fun memories with those you care about. Go for a hike, take a swim, share a meal, watch a movie, or do anything that creates a special moment while you honor our country in the present. We live in an incredible nation with amazing freedoms. It is up to us to keep our values and freedoms alive.
Choose to make heritage moments this Fourth of July and you will make a difference.
