Breath of Remembrance

Busyness, success, failure, pain, disappointment, drive, achievement, loss. These are the thieves. They can steal from us our most important attribute; our identity. These experiences can cause us to forget who are, and even more importantly why we are. We all know the individual who tasted success and became someone who was arrogant and full of pride. There are many who are struggling with real life issues that threaten their very reason for living.

Our purpose in this world is not based on the current situation we are experiencing. Our reason for living is not contingent on fame, fortune, gain or loss. It is easy to buy into the desire for instant gratification. It is also tempting to form quick opinions and judgements on ourselves and those around us.

A wise leader told me that she stops before entering important meetings or moments and takes a breath. She said that she intentionally reminds herself that her value and worth are not tied to an event, person, goal or project. She remembers who she is and why she exists.

Try stepping back from whatever you are experiencing and take a breath of remembrance.

Let’s stop allowing our circumstance to dictate our identity. Choose to remember who and why you are….. and you will make a difference.
