Lead Like Ruthie
There are those who lead with a self-serving agenda. It doesn’t take long to recognize that their motives center on what is best for themselves. They strive for power, control or wealth to promote their own interests. And then there is Ruthie. As an African American woman, she has faced obstacles, resistance and systemic difficulties throughout her life. She has every reason to be bitter, angry or to become a victim. But that is not going to happen.
Ruthie has worked incredibly hard and has obtained success in her life both professionally and personally. She is a woman of faith who lives her legacy of hope and purpose. She is a leader in our company, serving on our leadership team. Her wisdom and experience provide much needed perspective and guidance for our Eagle team. She is a leader in our community actively involved in meeting needs and supporting city officials. However, that is not what makes Ruthie special. What sets her apart is her unyielding desire to authentically care for others.
I watched as Ruthie put herself in harms way in the middle of a pandemic to care for our community and its leaders. Most recently she went above and beyond by securing the COVID vaccine for our Eagle counseling team. Specifically, she worked tirelessly to get an appointment for one of our team members who is at high risk because of an immune disorder disease. This is not unusual for Ruthie. I could write pages on how she has impacted the lives around her, both on a personal and professional basis.
I hope that you have a Ruthie in your life. Better yet, I challenge you to lead with an “others first” attitude. Choose to lead like Ruthie and you will make a difference!
